New Orleans Girl
This is another photograph taken at a studio in New Orleans, but its age is less certain. Having this sort of studio portrait done was generally a somewhat expensive and formal affair, but this young woman appears to have just gotten back from a brisk walk or horseback ride in a stiff wind and doesn't seem to have brought her comb with her! The elaborate lace yoke of her dress is exquisitely-worked handmade lace. She is wearing a very unusual necklace. Dangling from what may be a bookchain are 3 large flat metal pendants, in layers atop each other. One appears to be a Maltese Cross. The other 2 look much like a snowflakes.
