Victorian Haircombs - 1880s
This lovely girl is wearing a pair of combs, probably tortoiseshell, in an attempt to control her magnificent Pre-Raphaelite hair. The escaped spit curl at the center of her part line brings to mind the little girl in the nursery rhyme who had "a curl right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good she was very very good, and when she was bad she was horrid." She also wears a large gold watch brooch, a delicate pendant choker, and small stud earrings in her pierced ears. The lace of her collar is spectacular and appears to be handmade.
