1890s High Fashion Lady
Taken in New Orleans in the 1890s, this photograph shows a wealthy woman at the height of fashion. The brooch at her throat is a jeweled star framed by a crescent moon. A heavy gold bookchain necklace with a fringe center portion is also supporting a round watch. The flower corsage on her shoulder looks like a magnolia, perfect for this sterling example of Southern Womanhood. She is married, as can be seen by the ring on her left hand, which is holding a wonderful wide-brimmed dark straw hat trimmed with net and flowers.
