Victorian Bracelet
James Brown, the photographer who took this picture, had studios in 10 British cities. It's impossible to say whether this young woman lived in Manchester, London, Glasgow, Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol, Northampton, Sheffield, Cardiff, or Dundee. We do know, however, that this picture was taken around 1880. Note the wide bracelet on her right wrist. These Victorian bracelets were often worn on both wrists, but we can't say if this was true of her because only the right forearm is shown. The bracelet is her most dominant item of jewelry, although there may also be a round brooch at her throat. The bracelet appears to be a close-fitting, reticulated, hinged cuff.
