Victorian Serpent Brooch

This strong, no-nonsense woman lived in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. The photograph was taken by Frank H. McDougall during the 1880s. She is wearing a serpent-motif buckle-shaped brooch at her throat and a bead choker. Snake theme jewelry was very popular during the Victorian era.
