The handsome soldier at center is Seymour "Red" Deutsch, during his Army Air Corps service as a navigator for bomber planes. To the left is his fiancee, Mildred Kaplan (later Deutsch), and on the right is his sister, Iris Braunstein. Standing in front is Iris' daughter, Barbara. Home on leave to Brooklyn in 1943 or 1944, Red brought his two best girls sweetheart "wings" pins to match the ones he earned upon graduation from flight school. These wings are in the "Juarez Wings" style, sometimes marked Walter Lampl. Many thanks to Robin Deutsch for sharing this picture which captures so beautifully the pride, joy, patriotism, and style of the World War II era.
