New York Victorian with Fringed Mesh Bracelets

New York Victorian with Fringed Mesh Bracelets

This young matron appeared to believe that more was definitely more. From the massive heap of carefully sculpted hair perched like a crown on the top of her head to the wild array of fringe and braid hanging all around her hips, not one opportunity for adornment has been overlooked. The dress itself has more details than can be easily described - lapels, buttons, elaborate cuffs, superfluous pockets, and folds of cloth here and there for which we don't even know the names. Her jewelry begins with large, heavy pierced earrings. Their details can't be seen clearly, but they are ornate. At her throat is a brooch of some sort, but that is obscured by her gauzy lace ruff. There is no missing the truly massive gold chain from which hangs an oversized watch. Her engagement and wedding ring set sports a huge diamond solitaire which looks like at least 2 carats. The ultimate, however, are the wonderful gold mesh bracelets which probably adorn both wrists, though only the one on her left can be clearly seen. The bracelet is cinched firmly around her wrist, with a tail at least 4 inches long draping from the buckle clasp. Her right hand is gently clasped around the fringe we can barely see at the end of the mesh. In addition to being an opulent display of wealth, these bracelets clearly served a practical purpose as a sort of high end worry beads.
