Missouri Maiden
The state motto for Missouri is "Show Me" and this young woman from King City seems to exemplify this attitude. She looks decidedly unimpressed with the whole picture-taking experience and is waiting for proof that it will prove helpful in her life. Notice the bar and oval brooch at her throat, her pierced earrings with a large central stone surrounded by smaller light-colored stones, and the fancy dagger-like ornament thrust through her hair. She definitely dressed up for this event. Perhaps that stolid look was permanent, and had nothing to do with the photographer or the process.
