Mary Alice Martin circa 1900
On our site is another picture of this young woman, taken about 15-20 years later when she was a mother. This picture shows her before her marriage to the man who would later become mayor of Manchester, Connecticut, her home throughout her life. She is wearing a graceful skirt and blouse of what appears to be dotted swiss cotton. The fantastic yoke of her blouse is hand-made lace. Her only jewelry is the Art Nouveau style locket on a long chain, but her hat is definitely a crowning glory, constructed of soft velvet and the wings of a medium-sized bird - perhaps a dove.
