1937 Alma Julia Viderique Coya
In 1937 Alma Viderique was featured in the annual Mexico City Country Club yearbook representing "Sociedad de Baja California." Alma was a very high profile member of society who helped to organize many high society Black and White Balls throughout the 1930s and 1940s. She was married to Juan Legido, a very famous Spanish singer who popularized traditional Spanish songs. Her sister, Aida, was the wife of Mexico's President Abelardo L. Rodriguez. It's a shame we can't see Alma's beautiful huge brooch more clearly. Was it a multilayered filigree metal concoction in the style of Joseff of Hollywood, or was it a densely beaded Miriam Haskell? We'll never know, but it certainly did make a dramatic statement, as did her regal pose in profile.
