Evelyn and Ernest - 1912

Seventeen year old Evelyn Schemmel was wearing a lovely large oval locket when she married Ernest Schnee, a 21 year old barber. She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley, and Ernest wore one of the flowers on the lapel of his jacket as an oversized boutonnière. They lived in Iowa, where both of their families had farms. Only a year later, childless Evelyn was widowed when Ernest died prematurely of a sudden illness. She then worked as a housekeeper for the local Catholic rectory for several years until she remarried and began her family.
