Whiting & Davis “Princess Mary” Sunset Mesh Wrist Strap Evening Bag

Bag measures 2-1/4 x 4-1/4”. Total length of wrist strap is approximately 12”. This charming miniature bag is marked ,WHITING & DAVIS CO. BAGS REG. U.S. and PRINCESS MARY. The Princess Mary line had a fold-over envelope style flap closure. This example is especially lovely because it has deep V shaping at the bottom, with fringe to match. It is in the very elegant “Sunset” mesh pattern with alternating stripes of gold, bronze, and brass. This bag dates to circa 1922, based on early advertising examples. It is in extraordinary condition, with no damage to the delicate mesh. All links appear to be intact. The gold-tone wrist strap with slide adjustment has some wrinkles and dents as can be expected from light use and age, but no damage to the tight mesh. There is a ring at the end of the strap which indicates that it probably once had some type of decorative element. This is missing.
