Measures about 3" square. This beautiful old compact can be dated to 1938 by the patent number and date stamped in the powder reservoir. The cream-colored enamel top is graced by an exuberant white and green rhinestone flourish. Inside is a beveled mirror, a powder compartment with a push lever which dispenses powder into a reservoir, and a covered compartment at the side which contains barely used lipstick and rouge. The rouge has its own tiny puff for application. The original powder puff, marked with the script WL on a shield is also included. The powder reservoir is marked LAMPL U.S.A. PAT. 2,085,502 PAT. 5-7-38 NO. 2,117,671 ENCHANTAIRE. Hand-inscribed production numbers are also engraved between these stamped marks. One other interesting feature of this compact is the slot beneath the rouge and lipstick compartment which once held a comb which could be slid in and out. The comb is still in there, but has become jammed and can no longer be removed. No missing or dead rhinestones. Minor wear to enamel on top of case. One scratch in the enamel on the bottom of the case. This is a lovely original Art Deco compact by a great innovator in the field. (SOLD)
