Magnificent Maison Gripoix Aqua Pate de Verre Necklace & Earrings Set
Item #BD11191
Shorter strand of necklace measures 17-1/4" long from hook to chain end. Luscious semi-opaque aqua-colored poured glass beads are graduated from 9 to 17 mm. Between the beads are exquisite pate de verre, or poured glass, florettes in shades of blue, red, and purple. The beads are strung on links of brass-colored wire. Matching earrings measure 7/8" in diameter and are made of the same glass, but flattened a bit into a button shape, each crowned with one of the poured glass florettes. Clip backs hold well. Marked FRANCE. These pieces were made by the greatest of the French Art Deco glass artists, Maison Gripoix, probably for Chanel or one of the other leading designers of the time. It dates to the 1930s.
The condition of these pieces is remarkable, with no chips or cracks to any of the beads or florettes. No verdigris or oxidation of metal wires or ear clips. This is a rare and precious find.
