Unique Carborundum 10K Gold Stickpin

Measures 2-5/8" long. This fascinating old stickpin surely has a story, but that has been lost. The beautiful blue and green mineral crystal is carborundum, a waste product of a blast furnace, scraped from its walls. It is light, but very hard. It looks very much like "peacock ore." The high quality pin tests as 10K gold. This stickpin is in its original white kidskin box.
