Kaufman & Ruderman, Inc. of New York City manufactured jewelry from about 1940 to perhaps as late as the 1970s. Their Karu mark was first used in 1940. The Karu Arke mark was used at least by 1954, and possibly earlier. Gold-tone metal was typically used, often with iridescent crystal beads and/or aurora borealis rhinestones. The famed comedian Andy Kaufman was the son of one of the company founders.
