Huge Rare Walburt Sterling Hair Ornament

Measures 5" long and 1-1/2" wide at the top. This elaborately worked double prong slides into a chignon, bun, or French twist to keep the hair securely anchored. Although it is substantial in size, the hollow construction makes it light and easy to wear. Beautiful patina of vintage silver, especially on the decorative top. Marked STERLING. This hair ornament came in its original box, which is marked WALBURT and WL in script. A foil label on the bottom of the box reads ALLYN S. MORGAN JEWELER WINONA MINNESOTA. The bottom of the box is also marked with the probably item production number - 9603. The satin-lined box has a few brown stains inside, both inside the cardboard lid and on the satin lining. Walburt was a short-lived division of the Walter Lampl company, in business from only 1944 to 1946. This lovely hiar ornament is a rare and special example of their work. (SOLD)
