EISENBERG
Established in 1940, Eisenberg Jewelry, Inc. was a division of Eisenberg & Sons, Inc., a ladies' wear and perfume company which had been founded in 1914. It is not known for certain when Eisenberg and Sons began making jewelry to complement their clothing line, but the best estimate is around 1937. Originally, these early pieces of jewelry were sold with dresses, but in time, the jewelry eclipsed the clothing, and after 1958 the company made only jewelry. Eisenberg jewelry features very high quality materials, using white and colored rhinestones (mainly Swarovski)imported from Austria and Czechoslovakia. The designs are elegant and the workmanship is excellent. Several marks were used by this company, and many of the jewelry pieces can be dated using these marks. "Eisenberg Original" was used from 1938 until 1942. "Eisenberg Original Sterling" dates to the war years of 1943 to 1944. "Eisenberg Sterling" was used in the later years of World War II and following the war, from 1944 to 1948. Some pieces from the late 1940s were marked simply "E." "Eisenberg Ice" in block letters was used from 1949 to 1958. The company changed hands in in 1977 and continued production into the early 1990s. Most of the jewelry made between 1958 to 1970 was not marked. "Eisenberg Ice" in script letters was used starting in 1970.
