
Early Married Metals Mexican Sterling Aztec Earrings

Measure 1” in diameter. Each of these beautiful earrings shows an Aztec warrior in profile. He is wearing an eagle helmet and has incised feline whiskers on his cheek, probably indicating that he is a member of the elite jaguar warrior society. Large and elaborate silver earrings drop from each ear. The design is executed in brass, silver, and a black wood (probably ebony) in the technique known as “married metals.” Marked HECHO EN MEXICO DF 925 VS. This mark indicates that these earrings were made in Mexico City prior to 1948. Screw backs hold well. No damage to metals or wood.
