Ming's Painted Ivory Monstera Leaf Earrings

Measure 1 x 1-1/4". These gorgeous carved elephant ivory earrings are dyed or painted a rich light green. The technique used by the Moon family to color ivory has remained a closely guarded secret, so it is impossible to say how this was actually done, but the color is permanent and evenly applied. The earrings show carved and pierced monstera leaves. Each earring is hand signed. One says MING'S MONSTERA. The other says MONSTERA IVORY. The screw backs are marked STERLING. These are rare and wonderful examples of the work of Hawaii's premier jeweler and probably date to the 1940s. No signs of wear or use. Normal patina of vintage silver. (SOLD)
