Alice Caviness jewelry is relatively hard to find. It is notable for
its originality and use of complex, layered materials. Even her
simplest bead necklaces show a richness of color, shape, and texture.
This company began production in about 1945, after World War II. Alice
Caviness died in 1983, and the company continued under the leadership of
her partner, Lois Steever. Some Alice Caviness pieces were manufactured
in West Germany, and are marked as such. Many of these are sterling,
often in delicate filigree.
