Victorian Bay and Acorn Bog Oak Brooch
Item #DL131158
Measures 1-7/8 x 2-1/8" and rises 3/4" proud. This gorgeous carved bog oak brooch is lighter in color than is usually seen. The carving is especially fine, with excellent detail in the leaves of the surrounding garlands and the large acorn motif at the center. Bay leaves and berries are represented in the garland on the right, and oak leaves and berries compose the garland on the left. In the Victorian language of plants and flowers, this brooch symbolized eternal fidelity, honor, and strength. The gift of this brooch signified a promise to remain true until death. C-clasp holds well. No damage or signs of wear. This brooch dates to about 1885. $275.00 (Includes insured shipping to a U.S.A. address)
