Enameled Sterling World War II Seabees Sweetheart Pin
Item #DI13831
Measures 1 x 1-7/8". This wonderful pendant pin was worn by the sweetheart of a U.S. Naval Construction Battalion (Seabee) serviceman. The Seabees had a remarkable service record during WWII, arriving soon after the Marines when critical areas were invaded, setting up roads, bridges, housing, and airstrips to support the troops which followed. This charming pin features a cobalt blue enamel background behind a beautifully modeled "fighting bee" armed with a wrench, hammer, and submachine gun, wearing a navy cap. This pendant portion is suspended from a very sweet Retro style silver bow. Marked STERLING. Safety clasp holds well. No damage to enamel. Rich patina of vintage silver has been left undisturbed. Nicholas Snider writes in his book "Antique Sweetheart Jewelry" that Seabee items are "one of the smallest and rarest categories of military collectibles." This exceedingly rare pin is not shown among the many examples in his book. (SOLD)
