1960s Matl Salas Amethyst, Turquoise, & Coral Sterling Bird Brooch

Measures 2 x 2-3/8". This spectacular brooch features two birds in flight framing a irregularly faceted amethyst with white inclusions. The birds have coral cabochon eyes and a turquoise cabochon sits above and between them, like a crown. Beneath the birds is a hinged crescent shape set with 4 turquoise cabochons and beneath this are 4 dangles, each tipped with a coral cabochon. Marked Matl in script MEXICO 925 and Salas in script. This is an outstanding example of Matl's design at its most intricate and charming. Safety clasp holds well. Tiny chip to upper left corner of the amethyst. This is visible only upon very close inspection. Lovely patina of vintage silver has been left undisturbed. (SOLD)
