Large French Shell Cameo - Venus and Cupid
Item #CS191164
Measures 1-3/4 x 2". This beautifully carved shell cameo depicts Venus with her son, Cupid, and two other putti (or cherubs). She is reclining, mostly nude, in a woodland setting and she is caressing Cupid's face. He holds his bow. The large cameo is bracketed by an Etruscan Revival silver frame. The T-hinge and trombone clasp indicate that this brooch is European, probably French, and dates to the early 20th Century. Clasp holds well. There is one small chip at the edge of the shell, at one of the prongs which holds the cameo in the setting. This does not affect the appearance of the piece nor the security of the setting. (SOLD)
