Victorian Cut Steel Egyptian Revival Scarab Brooches - 1 Pair
Item #CK136125
Each measures 2" in diameter. These fantastic brooches are made of openwork, slightly domed, white metal. They are adorned with cut steel beads, similar to marcasites in appearance. C-clasps hold well. No missing cut steel "stones." No significant wear to metal, but normal patina of age. Pin stems are slightly bent. These brooches appear to date to the 1880s, probably created soon after the publication in 1883 of the book "The Pyramids and Mummies in Giza" by William Flinders Petrie. This book launched the craze for Egyptomania which persisted into the 1920s. Art Deco examples of Egyptian Revival are seen much more commonly than these earlier Victorian pieces. $330.00 (Includes insured shipping to a U.S.A. address)
