Large Thai Nakon Siam Sterling Fan Brooch

Measures 1-7/8 x 2-3/4". This lovely fan brooch is exquisitely etched and delicately curved. The alternating "fan blades" of smooth niello and engraved silver make a wonderful contrast. The handle of the fan is reticulated. Marked THAI NAKON STERLING HANDMADE IN SIAM. There is also a stamped bird-like mark, the earlier hallmark for this company, which was founded in Bangkok in 1932. Thai Nakon was the first company to produce commercial quantities of nielloware jewelry. Safety clasp holds well. No wear to niello.
