Big Sterling Vermeil Patriotic Retro Brooch

Measures 1-1/2 x 3-3/4". This substantial pin is constructed of a "washboard" rippled leaf shape with curling tendrils above and below. Down the spine of the leaf are a row of garnet red and white rhinestones, all prong-set, with a large glass blue topaz set with wide "claws" at the top of this row. Marked STERLING, with a gold wash. The red, white, and blue colors and use of sterling place this pin firmly in the World War II era. It is an interesting variation on the patriotic themes popular at this time.
