Early Japanese Handpainted Porcelain Brooch
Item #BX1311266
Measures about 5/8 x 1-5/8". The oval "cabochon" of porcelain is exquisitely handpainted with gilt, red, black, blue, and green. The image shows a luxurious gilded home, with mountains behind. This piece appears to date to the late Victorian era. C-clasp holds well. The backing appears to be silver, though its purity is uncertain. The back is marked with a geometric symbol, like a stylized chrysanthemum. No wear or damage to delicate painting. Very fine crazing in some areas of the porcelain, visible only with magnification. Beautiful patina of vintage silver on back. (SOLD)
