1947 Walburt Mexican Mariachi "Gay Puppet" Brooch

Measures 2 x 3-1/2". This charming hand-painted gold-tone brooch shows a bow-legged mariachi playing an arrow-headed guitar. Over one arm is an articulated chain-link serape. Marked WALBURT. This rare and charming piece can be dated to 1947 by an ad in the Jeweler's Circular trade magazine showing this "Gay Puppet" onstage with other fantasy theme brooches. Safety clasp holds well. Patina at weld spots where the arms are attached to the body. One chip of the red enamel paint on his left foot. No other significant wear or damage. (SOLD)
