Reja Sterling Turtle Pin Set
Item #AY13102520
Largest pin measures 1 x 2-1/8" The two smaller turtles measure 3/4 x 1-1/4". All are cast in sterling with rose gold vermeil. All have glass faux coral cabochon carapaces and light sapphire blue rhinestone eyes. The largest turtle is marked REJA STERLING. The 2 smaller turtles are marked PAT 2, 066, 969. This patent number was granted to F.E. Farnham in 1937 and is for the safety clasp mechanism of the pin backs. These charming pins show typical Reja detail and craftsmanship. No chips or other damage to faux coral cabochons. No missing or dead rhinestones. No significant wear to rose gold vermeil. Safety clasps hold well. A drawing of a rhinestone-encrusted variation of this turtle can be seen on page 190 of American Costume Jewelry by Carla and Roberto Brunialti. The book dates the piece to 1943. $370.00 (Includes insured shipping to a U.S.A. address)
