
Early Matisse "Theatrical Mask" Brooch

Measures 1 x 2-1/2". This richly enameled brooch in shades of turquoise blue and dark teal was made between 1952 and 1954. Marked simply Matisse in script, with no copyright symbol, this very early piece in the Matisse line was created by designer Jerry Fels in association with Curtis Tann, a newly hired enamelist. These early pieces are particularly finely colored and are considered the finest ever produced by Matisse/Renoir. Safety clasp holds well. No signs of wear or use. Perfect for Mardi Gras! (SOLD)
