Walter Lampl Cinnabar & Turquoise Chinese Brooch

Measures 2 x 2-3/4". An extraordinary brooch featuring beautifully carved cinnabar and irregularly shaped turquoise nuggets. Cinnabar and turquoise held in place by engraved prongs. Richly detailed Chinese ornamentation in deep relief on gold-tone brooch. Marked WALTER LAMPL. Safety clasp holds well. One scratch and some minor patination on back. The cinnabar has a chip, just below the prong on the right side. The turquoise nugget on the left is also chipped. This is not readily apparent because of the irregular shape of the stone, but allows that stone to rattle just a little in its setting. The prongs could be easily tightened. This brooch is a masterpiece of design by the great Walter Lampl. Probably dates to the 1930s. (SOLD)
