In this context Diana (identifiable by her crescent moon crown) represents the American wilderness while Ceres (with sheafs of grain in her hair) represents agriculture. Both represent the bounty of the United States. The carving is outstanding, with fully detailed hair, facial features, and feathers. The dignified goddesses have faces and figures typical of Victorian cameos. The cameo is set in an ornate silver-tone frame. The C-clasp holds well.
