A. Michelsen Royal Copenhagen Handpainted Porcelain Flower Brooch

Measures 1-3/4 x 1-7/8". This beautiful brooch features a botanical illustration of a yellow flower. Blooms, leaves, stems, and roots are shown in exquisite detail. The gilded sterling back is marked with the A. Michelsen AM topped with a crown in a triangle hallmark, 925S, and the Danish crown hallmark. This sterling plate has a window which reveals the Royal Copenhagen mark, the word DENMARK, and the handpainted initials of the artist - alx in script. This is the pre-1950 method of indicating the artist. The "x" means "by," thus the piece was painted by someone with the initials A.L. No damage or wear to the porcelain or gilding. Light patina of vintage silver on the back only. Safety clasp holds well. This is a spectacular piece from two important Danish companies, A.
