Wide Victorian Sterling Buckle Hinged Bangle Bracelet
Item #DH127142
Measures 6-3/4" inside circumference and 1-3/8" wide. This lovely bracelet has tremendous presence and classic styling. The big buckle element is surprisingly bold and modern in appearance. Delicately engraved foliar motifs decorate the front. This bracelet dates to circa 1880 and is engraved inside: Gertrude Ackerknecht from Aunt Kitty Jan. 1929. We believe this bracelet was a family piece given to Gertrude C. Ackernecht of Johnstown, New York when she was 18 years old. She was the daughter of Arthur Ackernecht, a glovemaker, and his wife Gertrude Schults Ackernecht. We have been unable to discover the identity of Aunt Kitty, but suspect that young Gertrude, the recipient of this bracelet was probably a namesake, as her middle initial was C and Kitty is a common pet name for women named Catherine. The bracelet is in outstanding condition, with lovely patina and no significant dents. The slide clasp holds well. There is one tiny dimple on the back of the bracelet, consistent with gentle wear. One of the loops from the original safety chain is present, but the other has been lost. On close inspection it can be seen that this missing loop was bent over and pressed into the silver of the bracelet front, leaving a faint impression. This is an outstanding example of this seldom-seen style of Victorian bracelet. $625.00 (Includes insured shipping to a U.S.A. address)
