BOUCHER
Marcel Boucher is acknowledged as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, costume jewelry designers. His jewelry is technically superb, with excellent metalwork and "real" look stones. The attention to detail is exquisite. This master was born in Paris in 1899, where he received his formal design training. He worked for Cartier in both Paris and New York, immigrating to the United States in 1925. From 1930 until 1937 he worked for Mazer Bros. His own company, Marcel Boucher, Ltd., was formed in 1937. After Boucher's death in 1965, the company was led by his second wife, Sandra, until 1972. Boucher's designs are often marked with a production number that can be used to pinpoint the year of manufacture. The earliest pieces are marked MB, with or without the Phrygian cap mark. BOUCHER and MARCEL BOUCHER were also used.
